Do you have confusions about Internet speed? Does your mind freak out when you hear the words like megabits, megabytes or bandwidth? Don't worry, you're not alone. Lots of people are confused with internet network speed. People are not aware of the technical terms and do not have knowledge about what internet speed is, how it works and why they should pay extra for more of it. But it's the internet service providers biggest selling point, so speed must be important… right?
What you could do when your device shows no wireless network:
Network speed is an amalgamation of interrelated factors. It is the bandwidth that you receive that makes for a good internet experience instead of the speed of the network that you use which simply means that your focus should be on the bandwidth and not the network provider.
Now the question is - what is bandwidth? Bandwidth is the rate at which electronic signals travel through a medium, such as a wire, cable, or channel. To explain it better, bandwidth is the pipe through which the data flows; wider the pipe, larger the amount of data that can flow through it. And network speed is usually measured in seconds. For example 5 Mbps means that you can receive up to 5 megabits of data per second.
Understanding Bandwidth requirement The best way to explain the working of bandwidth (internet speed) is by making use of analogy (method of conveying voice, data, image, signal or video information using a continuous signal which varies). In analog transmission (such as transmission of voice signals over copper telephone lines) bandwidth is measured in Hertz. On the other hand, a telephone conversation requires about 4,000 Hertz (4 KHz) of bandwidth. In digital transmission (i.e., transmission of data from one computer to another) bandwidth is measured in bits per second (BPS); for example, modern modems sends and receives data at 56,000 bps (56 Kbps) over ordinary telephone lines. Different types of data need different bandwidths. For example, buffering of a video requires about 10 million bits per second (10 Mbps) bandwidth which can carry 1,200 telephone conversations simutaneously.
Another concept that makes a common man confused is use of in abbreviations like kbps, Mbps, MBps and Gbps. These are the abbreviations used for the amount of data that is sent per second.
There are several factors that slow down the speed of internet like:
These problems can hamper your work and can be really frustrating, time consuming and costly. Fast and efficient Internet connection has become a vital component of our everyday life. Below mentioned are some ways to increase the speed and maximize the performance of internet devices.
These are few simple and easy ways which you can work upon to gain the network speed and make your experience a worthwhile.
